How to affect change
In this digital age, why is it that we can still feel so disengaged? We have all the social media offerings at our fingertips. In February 2025, the national average Americans spent on social media was 2 hours 16 minutes, according to Thuy from statista.com.
That being said, does it seem like our words land anywhere when it comes to social media platforms and legislation? How else can we make a difference in the daily lives of our children and their education?
I believe we need to simply walk into the schools and ask to meet with the teachers who work with our children each day. Get to know them. Take them a cup of coffee and invite them out on a walk. Starting a conversation can inspire further conversations, especially among teachers.
We live in a time when teachers are dipping into their own pockets to pay for school supplies when funds are short. Is it possible that a teacher would set aside time to meet with an interested parent? I think so. It’s grass roots level work, but this is how change begins, one person at a time.
The impacts are great and varied, and any Waldorf teacher will tell you that the relationship between parents and teachers is the stuff that energizes a classroom and makes a child’s school day enhanced and successful.
